Swimming off Santorini’s unique volcanic beaches
The Akrotiri area is home to a beach with unique landscape combinations. The colour contrast between the red lava cliffs that plunge to the shore and the blue waters of the Aegean Sea is breathtaking. Be ready to face a crowd of people as everybody wants a spot!
Take your own vehicle, bus or taxi from Aigialos and then hike for about 10 minutes. The magnificent red beach hosts a small canteen offering refreshments, as well as sunbeds on which to lie and relax, listening to the lapping waves of the Aegean Sea.
Perivolos / black-sand beach
Perivolos is the longest black-sand beach of Santorini. Thanks to the locals it is well-organized, providing sunbeds with umbrellas, as well as a choice of tavernas, beach bars and restaurants, where you can enjoy your fresh fish and local specialities by the sea. Ideal for sports lovers, Perivolos beach offers a wide range of challenging activities, such as windsurfing, scuba diving, jet skis, kayaks and a volleyball court.
Located in the southern part of the island, Perivolos beach is well signposted and can be reached from Aigialos by private car, bus or taxi.
Vlychada beach welcomes you with its curvaceous rock formations which look like a natural masterpiece of sculpture, composing an enchanting landscape as they join the black sand. The picturesque port with the local fishing boats and the elegant yachts give it a cosmopolitan air, while its long coast ensures privacy for swimmers. Visitors may rent sunbeds with umbrellas or enjoy a refreshing cold drink at the beach bar.
Located in the southern part of the island, Vlychada can be reached by car, bus or taxi and has an easily accessible parking lot for private vehicles.
